I wasn't so surprised about that as I was about the curious route the driver took to get to the scene of the wreck 4 minutes later. The wreck was literally 4 blocks down Highland, and the camera car was headed in that direction when it left the station. Then for some unknown reason it turned down all sorts of side streets before getting back on Highland at Melrose. It was bizarre.

But that's hardly the biggest mystery of this story.

There are also plenty of crackpots adhering to the Hastings story like leeches. Some of it is obvious disinfo, but much of it is just the usual crazies and hangers-on that any Celebrity Death in LA attracts. (There are times, I confess, when I can actually miss Los Angeles and its unique culture...)

It took a while for the crazies to realize that this was a genuine Celebrity Death, however, so there was an early pause to reflect about Michael, his work, and how horrifying his passing was. Those who witnessed it must have been (probably still are) in profound shock.

The car should not have exploded. When there is an honest explanation for why it did -- which I can't imagine we'll get from LA authorities -- then we may understand what actually happened here.

I don't buy the Russian theory (or whoever came up with it) that Hastings was "droned" on his way to the Israeli consulate. That's just stupid -- but disinfo often is. On the other hand, the effect of the crash and the explosion on witnesses -- which now includes everybody who's seen the videos -- is the same as if the car had been droned.

The effect on would-be whistle blowers and intrepid investigative reporters is hard to gauge at this point, but it's hard to imagine it's anything but chilling.

Ché Pasahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01926630891287949373noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2304235862479840318.post-65278365649474281942013-06-21T06:03:09.398-07:002013-06-21T06:03:09.398-07:00It's really hard to not go all "tin foil ...It's really hard to not go all "tin foil hat" in this case.
