DeRay McKesson has become one of the most oft-quoted of the many "leaders" of the movement against police violence that has grown up this year. I tend to stay away from Twitter, but I saw this last night, and it appealed to me more and more. The Movement DeRay and so many others are part of is a moral one, intentionally building awareness and tweaking consciences one by one and in batches.
People who encounter the protests are often caught off guard, sometimes they're annoyed and angry, other times they wait mindlessly till the protest passes, but every now and again, someone has an awakening... a conscience is moved among the otherwise disengaged or oblivious.
By offering blessings this way, DeRay helps move and change the situation -- I think for the better.
